I'M OFF TO BATH

I have always wanted to live in a castle. So for this week's Monday Mission, I went and found one. Now all I need is $3,178,096 or 1.6M GBP - boy the dollar really sucks right now, because you know that's the only thing keeping me from buying this gem :).

A fairytale lodge

9 bedroom suites (3 terraces)
3 reception rooms
Office, utility, 2 cloakrooms
Gardens, woodland with stream
Outbuilding,in all 3.5 acres

The Bath Lodge fronts onto the A36 and lies to the east of the village of Norton St Phillip. Norton St Philip offers a shop/garage and two public houses. The picturesque village of Farleigh Hungerford to the east offers a public house and Farleigh Castle (English Heritage). Bath enjoys world renown architecture and cultural activities as well as the university's sporting centre of excellence. Regular rail services run from Bath Spa to London and the South West.

A picturesque former lodge dating from the beginning of the 19th century and commissioned as a western gatehouse leading to Farleigh House. Solid in appearance and structure, the pleasing Bath stone elevations provide a fortified appearance with circular towers to each corner and a central section in the style of a keep and portcullis all adorned with crenulations. The property now offers extensive accommodation, having been successfully enlarged during the 1980's which charmingly incorporate the baronial feel of the original lodge. A wide braced heavy timber door opens into the entrance hall, which leads through a reception hall into the drawing room with its large open fire. The large dining room, kitchen/breakfast room and an independent wing are contained in the 20th century part of the property. There are seven fantastic bedrooms all with en suite bath or shower rooms of which three are in the older part of the lodge and each of these enjoy their own roof terraces.

The standard of decoration and appointment is high throughout the property. The extensive grounds are made up of lovely lawns to the front and rear. There is a large gravelled area for parking and a useful outbuilding. The grounds enjoy a mature woodland with a stream running through. The Bath Lodge has been successfully run as a small family owned hotel for the past 20 years. It would equally make a charming family home or flagship office subject to gaining the relevant permissions.

Accommodation: Hall, reception hall, drawing room, dining room, kitchen/breakfast room, office, utility room, scullery, two cloakrooms, 7 bedroom suites 3 with roof terraces. Independent wing with hall, sitting room with adjecent bathroom, 2 en-suite bedrooms. Appealing gardens with lawns, woodland with a stream, ample parking, useful outbuilding providing storage and garaging. In all about 3.5 acres.

This has been part of this weeks Monday Mission: this week's mission is to write a post in the style of a House Listing. Please go visit Painted Maypole to see all the other Monday Mission entries.
